The blind bets
The
blinds are unique for a reason. From a positional standpoint it is
actually advantageous to be in the small blind or big blind pre-flop.
This, however, is where your positional advantage ends. On the flop,
turn, and river the blind players will be first to act. You will be
giving up position to every other player at the poker table for the next
few rounds. Not only this, but the relative strength of hands becomes
much more clearly defined on the flop. The disadvantage of acting first
in the next three betting rounds is extreme.
The other unique thing about the blinds is that it will cost you less to
see the flop. If there are no raises, the small blind is half price and
the big blind is free. You get to see the flop without paying anything.
However, you should not ever feel compelled to protect your blinds. The
fact that you have posted a blind does not bear on whether or not you
should proceed. Proceed if you have a profitable situation and fold when
you do not. Consider the small blind to be late position. In the big
blind, call one raise with late position hands, call two raises with one
raise hands, and call three raises with two raise hands. Go
