Big Pair
When
you have a pair that outranks your remaining opponents' door cards then
you very probably have the best hand. There is some risk that one of
your opponents has trips or a pair in the hole that is bigger then
yours, but you should not live in fear. When you have a pair that is
bigger than any remaining visible card - bet or raise. Ideally, you will
find yourself head-up against one opponent who has a smaller pair or a
draw. In this case you will have at least a small edge and very possibly
a big edge. Not only it is desirable to have the biggest pair that you
can see, it is also desirable that you pair be as big as possible. A
pair of aces is superior to a pair of jacks. This should be obvious.
Also, there is an advantage to your pair being concealed. When your pair
is split, then you make trips when you pair doorcard. If your pair is
buried, then what looks like an innocent card to your opponents may give
you trips. If you have a pair bigger than any card you can see, you
likely have the best hand and you should bet or raise. Go
