Casino Marketing Gone Bad

 

 In an effort to do drastic marketing, a casino company sent emails beginning “Ever thought of having a concealed weapon permit?” Perhaps in any other situation this may have worked as it would have aroused curiosity within people but in the city of Laughlin, this was no laughing matter.

Obviously in a city that is very anti guns, especially when they are in association with casinos, it did not work well.
The city is so traumatized about guns because in 2002 Harrah’s Laughlin Casino was home to three people’s death and twelve people’s injuries in what was a rival biker gang war.
In an interview with media marketer, Mark Coli, Coli emphasized that this is just another reason why people prefer online casinos to the land based one. Land based casinos have had bad experiences within them and even if nothing specific happened within the actual casino, there is a bad connation associated with it that online casinos do not have. In terms of marketing Coli states that online casinos are really in touch with what clients want. However, the land based casinos are a little behind in this marketing efficiency and may be benefited to be helped by online casinos marketing representatives. Mr. Conrad, whom is the president of Raving Consulting Co., stated that this is an example of really bad marketing. Mr. Conrad is responsible for giving his opinions on casinos marketing, land based and online casinos. He attends many casino campaign shows and does lectures on bad marketing techniques for land based and online casinos. Conrad stated that there was many positive marketing campaigns along with the many mistakes casinos made and online casinos were praised for their advanced marketing techniques.
Online casinos were reprimanded only for marketing exaggerated bonuses on their online casinos and were recommended to make their bonuses more modest and thus, more believable. Online casinos were also warned not to get involved with pornography as that would make their online casinos fit into certain prototypes that most online casinos players did want to get into. Just like land based casinos, online casinos were encouraged to keep their self-respect and dignity. Marketers need to be wary of sensitive consumers to certain issues.
