Baseball and Online Casinos Don’t
Mix
In the love hate
relationship between sports and betting, there was another blow. While
it may have been nice to see Barry Bonds' 700th home run ball at the
Baseball Hall of Fame, fans will have to view it elsewhere. Bonds is not
at fault here. The museum refuses to hold anything acquired from online
casinos sites. The baseball was purchased from this type of site.
The Cooperstown museum disallowed themselves to accept the baseball,
last week. This was because the donation came from an online casinos
sports betting site. The online casinos site purchased the ball for
$102,000 at a June auction.
According to the online casinos site, the ball was offered as a part of
history. The online casinos site from time to time purchases
paraphernalia for the purpose of creating attention. Sometimes they even
donate the items to the correct museums, it was no different here. Of
course the Hall's executive board didn’t feel the same way. They don’t
do business with any of the online casinos sites. Hall of Fame Spokesman
Jeff Idelson said at the end of last week that turning down the online
casinos site was a prompted decision.
The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum stands firm that they will never
accept articles of historical value from any person or company known to
be involved with the online casinos, or any other form of gambling.
Idelson said it was about the dignity of the game, and that is not
associated with gambling. They are not prepared to compromise on this
issue, not now, and not ever. Idelson, who has worked at the hall for 11
years, said this situation is a first for him. This is a facility first
as well for rejecting an article of baseball history, because of its
connection to gambling, particularly from an online casinos site.
Baseball has avoided having a connection to gambling since the 1919
Black Sox scandal. Even Pete Rose's betting career prevented him from
getting a plaque at the museum. Two other baseball greats, Mickey Mantle
and Willie Mays, were suspended from the game after they took jobs at
Atlantic City casinos. Baseball and gambling don’t match, including
online casinos and land ones. This may be the first time online casinos
have made their attempt to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame, but even for
them, they were banned. This has been the cardinal rule in the sport not
to mix the two. It is posted in every baseball club house around the
country.
Alex Czajkowski, of the online casinos sport betting site, expressed his
major disappointment. As marketing director, Czajkowski said that he
isn’t surprised of their choice. He understands their position, but the
online casinos site was just trying to do something pleasant for the
museum, as they had the famous ball in their collection. It’s a shame
this can be accepted, but again baseball will never mix with gambling,
even when it comes to online casinos.
